An airbrush tan is like makeup
for your body.
Sunless tanning is a safer alternative to UV tanning and an instant pick-me-up any time of year. Illumine Tanning provides a custom blended, natural looking airbrush spray tan in the privacy of your home, office, or hotel room. We can set up virtually anywhere and the process is mess-free. And the best part: there's no worries about sweating or getting caught in the rain or snow. You are already home!
Where is Illumine Tanning located?
Why must I pre pay for my appointment?
When you book your appointment, that time is reserved specifically for you. As spray tanning requires advance preparation, we tend to book up in advance, and last-minute cancellations drastically impair our ability to re-book your time slot. It is our policy to require payment at the time of booking to minimize last-minute changes to the schedule, as well as to offer a convenient, cashless system to our clients. If you are unsure of your ability to commit to an appointment scheduled in advance, we encourage you to check our online booking page for same-day availability.
What is the cancellation policy?

Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you, so we ask that you please plan-ahead and limit last-minute scheduling changes. Appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled up to 24 hours in advance via your appointment confirmation page with a full refund. However, we understand that life happens and sometimes things come up. Please text or leave a message on our voice mailbox at 773-669-8261 or email illuminetanning@gmail.com if you need to make a last-minute change to your scheduled appointment time outside of the 24 hour window. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but cannot guarantee your preferred time will be available.
Is spray tanning safe?
DHA is FDA-approved for topical use on the skin. It is the same ingredient found in tanning lotions, tan towels, and aerosol tanning sprays. Just like other cosmetics, it should not be ingested or applied to mucous membranes such as eyelids, inside the nose, and lips. The use of undergarments, nose plugs, and lip balm during your spray tan session is recommended to protect these areas. Those with sensitivities to sugar and pregnant women should consult their doctor prior to spray tanning with any questions or concerns.

How does the solution make me tan?

The active ingredient in airbrush tanning solution is called dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which is naturally derived from sugar. The DHA reacts with the amino acids in the top layer of your skin and causes the darkening or tanning of your skin. The solution must remain on your skin for at least 8 hours (1-4 hours for rapid tans) for the desired results to be achieved. The tanning solution also contains a cosmetic bronzer that provides an immediate tan color, however the DHA continues to react with your skin even after rinsing, and your final color will be achieved 24 hours after your tanning session. As the skin naturally exfoliates, the color of your tan will gradually fade.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Making sure your skin is properly hydrated, exfoliated, and free of any lotions, perfumes, deodorant, and makeup is key to achieving a beautiful, long-lasting tan. You may view additional pre- and post- tanning instructions HERE.
How long will my tan last?
Your new tan should last 5-7 days or longer depending on how you care for your skin, your activities, and the products you use. Stick to all-natural aloe-based body lotions and look for products that are free of alcohol, mineral oil, parabens, and sulfates. Heavy perspiration, chlorinated water, and soaking in the tub will cause your tan to fade faster. Illumine Tanning also carries a line of products designed to maintain and extend the life of your tan.
Will I turn orange?
Absolutely not! Illumine's all-natural tanning solutions are fully customizable, and your tanning artist will choose the appropriate blend for your skin tone. Even the darkest application will give you a natural-looking golden brown color. Orange is not in our vocabulary!
Who applies it?
We get it. The thought of undressing in front of a complete stranger can be a little nerve-racking! This is Elizabeth, Illumine's certified airbrush tanning artist. We all have our insecurities about our bodies, but her mission is to make you comfortable during the session regardless of your shape or size. Your home is your comfort zone, and she operates with a strict no-judgement policy. So don't worry about the dishes in the sink or that pile of laundry you haven't gotten to! She will also probably make you laugh, because let's be real: spray tanning is kinda funny!
What should I expect for my first at-home appointment?
Illumine's certified airbrush tanning artist will arrive at your location and set up a mobile tanning booth to be used during your session. You will complete a quick consultation with the artist going over any skin concerns and your desired results, and she will blend your custom tanning shade. You will then step into the booth for the spray session where a barrier cream will be applied to your hands and feet to prevent discoloration in those areas, followed by the application of the tanning solution with the spray gun. The artist will dry your skin with the air from the machine, and follow up with an application of scented powder to absorb perspiration. Then you can get dressed and relax!

How long does the at-home appointment take?
The complete appointment takes about 30 minutes including time for the artist to set up and put away the equipment. The actual spray session takes about 10 minutes per person. Please allot some additional time after your appointment to ensure the solution is completely dry before dressing and heading out.

What should I wear for my at-home appointment?
A bathrobe or pajamas is completely appropriate for the artist's arrival. We want you to be comfortable! During the spray session, you may choose to wear a dark-colored swimsuit or underwear. Long hair should be secured high on the head and away from the face. Disposable undergarments, nose plugs, and hairnets are also available for you to use during the session.
